On Saturday I was wondering what I could do with them to use them up and had thought about making some apple juice but after seeing a post for Emily Fruit Crisps on facebook I decided I'd look into how to make them myself as I love them but at about £1.49 for a 30g bag they're pretty pricey! I don't think the Emily ones are actually baked but After doing a bit of googling I realised it looked incredibly easy to make them and so, I decided to give it ago.
I'm so glad I did as it really was very easy and they are sooo yummy! I've since made another 3 batches as I end up eating the whole lot in one go. My mum has asked me to make some for her and my sister and niece both loved them too! An added bonus is they class as one of your 5 a day so are healthy snack too!
Aldi have Funsize Apples in their Super 6 at the moment with between 8 - 10 apples in a pack for just 59p!
I believe you can keep these in an airtight container or resealable bag for a while but I've not managed to keep them longer than overnight yet due to eating them!
I've made 2 types so far, just plain apple and cinnamon apple, I'm going to have a play about and see what other combinations I can come up with soon but for now I'll just start with the plain and cinnamon 'Recipe', if I can really call it that! You can also either leave the apple whole or core them, depending on your preference. I personally much prefer them cored.
Cinnamon Apple Crisps
Ingredients:
Apple(s)
Ground Cinnamon
Equipment:
Apple Corer (Optional)
Food Processor with Slicing Disk or Mandolin
Baking Tray
Baking Paper
Method:
- Preheat oven to 160°/140° Fan//Gas Mark 3.
- Core apple(s) if required.
- Thinly slice apple in food processor with slicer attachment or with Mandolin. Alternatively, slice thinly with a sharp knife.
- Place on baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
- Place in oven for around 45-60mins turning halfway through until lightly browned. Keep an eye on them towards the end as sometimes they cook a little quicker.
- Remove from oven and enjoy!
They make still seem a little soft when you take them out of the oven but should crisp up shortly after taking out, if they don't, pop them back in the oven for a few more minutes.
For Plain apple crisps just leave out step 5 :)
Looking forward to hearing what you guys think of these!
