Lettuce...

So I went shopping on Sunday and managed to get all bar 1 of the Super 6, the Persimmon (Sharon Fruit) was out of stock but I'm hoping they'll have them back in next Sunday, we will just have to see though.

I decided I'd start with one of the harder Super 6 and went for the Romaine Lettuce. I found that in America it seems to be popular to 'Grill' aka BBQ these, sadly it's just not the right time of year to be doing that so I carried on digging. I ended up finding a recipe for stir-fried romaine and was intrigued.

I must admit that I was surprised but it works! Treat it a bit like pak choi.

Stir-fried Romaine Lettuce

Ingredients:

Romaine Lettuce - Outer leaves removed.
Soy Sauce
Stock
Rice Vinegar
White Pepper
Oil
Garlic - Crushed or Garlic Paste (The cheat stuff you get in a tube or jar)
Chilli - Optional

Method:
  1. Start by chopping the lettuce crossways, about an inch thick. Heat a wok on hight then add some oil.
  2. Add the garlic, and chilli if using, and stir for about a minute.
  3. Add in the lettuce and fry for a minute or so, add a dash of soy sauce, stock, rice vinegar and white pepper and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes.
  4. Enjoy!
I had this as a side with a stir-fry with rice but I think I might try adding it into any old stir-fry in future :)

Sorry this is such a short post! I made this very quickly as I was going out so didn't take many photos. It's not the most eye pleasing dish I've ever made either but it's all about the taste!

Em x
